Joanne Stroot

June 25, 1931 — April 23, 2016

Joanne Stroot, formerly of Terre Haute, died April 23, 2016 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. After the death of her husband in 2009, she moved from Boca Raton, Florida to live with her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Stroot, and granddaughter, Xiomara Janelle in Sheboygan. Ten months ago she moved to an assisted living facility as her health worsened.
Joanne was born June 25, 1931 in Mattoon, Illinois to Jane Ralston Stewart. Shortly after her birth, she moved to Miami, Florida with her Aunt Mamie where she remained through elementary school. She moved north to Terre Haute to live with her mother, step-father, and siblings. She was preceded in death many years ago by all members of her immediate family, her aunt, Mary Mamie Roberts, her parents, Jane and Keith Newlin, Sr., her sister, Connie Newlin, and her brother Keith Butch Newlin, Jr.
Joanne met her sweetheart, Robert F. Stroot, when she was working at the candy counter in Kresges in Terre Haute. Robert was seven years her senior and a returning World War II veteran. They married at St. Patricks Catholic Church in June 1950, right after Joannes graduation from Wiley High School. Their first daughter, Janelle Ann died of leukemia in 1957 at the age of three years. Two years later, they welcomed Elizabeth Ann into their home, and two years afterwards, Nancy Catherine joined the family. Joannes dream to return to the warm weather came true in 1971 when the family moved to south Florida.
Nothing brought Joanne more joy than spending time with her family and friends. She adored Nancys sons, Gregory, Geoffrey, and Garryd Yager of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Elizabeths daughter, Xiomara. Her life was greatly enriched by the love she shared with her friends, Joan (recently deceased) and Paul Blade of Boca Raton, Florida, and their children, Bill, Bob, Patty, and Joe. Joanne is also survived by many nieces and nephews and other dear friends from her homes in Terre Haute, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Sheboygan.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 30, 2016 in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1807 Poplar Street, with Father Rick Ginther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4:00-7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 6:45 P.M. on Friday, April 29th at Callahan Hughes Funeral Home, 605 South 25th Street.
